Huawei has announced the Mate X3, a new foldable device that aims to charm the West with the Snapdragon 8+ G1. Despite the American embargo, Huawei has now announced a new series of devices that includes the Mate X3 foldable model and three more devices from the P60 series, all of which operate on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor from Qualcomm, but in a modified version with only 4G support.
The Mate X3 is the company’s latest model in the foldable device market and is similar in design to the Galaxy Z Fold. When open, it features a 7.8-inch OLED LTPO display with a resolution of 2469 by 2224 pixels, providing a pixel density of 426ppi. It also has a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, up to 300Hz sampling rate, and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. When closed, the external screen is also OLED and measures 6.4 inches with a resolution of +Full HD, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a 10-bit color depth.
The Mate X3 camera system includes a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a similar sensor with a periscope lens for zooming and optical image stabilization support. The battery has a capacity of 4,800mAh with 50W charging or 7.5W reverse charging, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of internal storage. The price of the Mate X3 is expected to be high, at $1,900 for the base configuration in China.
In the P60 series, Huawei has launched three models: P60 Pro, P60, and P60 Art. All come with a 6.67-inch OLED LTPO display with +Full HD resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and an under-screen fingerprint sensor.
Behind three cameras, with the main one being 48-megapixel that operates in the RYYB color profile instead of the commonly used RGB. According to the company, this provides better image quality and coping with varying lighting conditions, also thanks to an adjustable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. The P60 and P60 Pro models also have a 13-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, while in the P60 Art model, it has been upgraded to 40 megapixels.
Another change in the third sensor and in the regular model is a 12-megapixel sensor with 5x optical zoom, while in the other two, it is a 48-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and a combined zoom of up to 100x.
Prices will start at $650 and go up to $1200 for the most expensive version. They all run on a customized version of Huawei’s HarmonyOS 3.1 without Google’s apps.
